Toothache and emergency dentistry

We understand that toothaches are very unpleasant, so you don’t need to suffer from pain any longer; make an appointment before the problem gets worse – all emergency patients are welcome!
The most common causes of tooth pain are dental cavities and decay, wisdom teeth, cracked or fractured teeth, exposed roots, jaw joint (TMJ) dysfunction and gum disease. Our dentists can help determine the cause of a toothache and treat the issue, relieving you of pain.

Root canal therapy

Root canal therapy is a sequence of treatments that are used to eliminate infection from the pulp of a tooth, and are carried out to essentially ‘save’ it. It is required when the nerve inside a tooth becomes infected and inflamed, generally due to trauma, tooth cracks and fractures, or decay and cavities that allow microorganisms access to the pulp chamber or the root canal.
The process involves the removal of infected tissue, cleaning and decontamination of the pulp chamber, reshaping the cavity and then filling it with a material to restore strength and structure to the tooth. After a root canal treatment, teeth generally regain their original functionality.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Implants are a great alternative for patients who are missing individual teeth or wearing dentures. Because they are so much like natural teeth, most people are unable to detect that they even exist; they enable talking, laughing, eating and chewing with confidence. The procedure involves the initial placement, and then a healing process that usually takes three months, before they can be completed by restoration with crowns.
The loss of a tooth, or the inability of our teeth to perform their natural functions can severely affect eating patterns, self-confidence and appearance; missing teeth and gaps can distract from an otherwise beautiful smile. Dental implants offer a permanent solution to these problems, actually mimicking natural teeth, and providing a fully functional replacement for missing teeth. Generally made from titanium, they are surgically inserted into the jaw bone; they take on the role of an anchor within the mouth, which is then used to fasten ‘false teeth’ into position. Dental implants provide amazing stability for patients, aiding with biting pressure as well as reducing irritation and ulcers generally experienced by denture wearers.
During implant treatment, our dedicated team ensures that every possible step is taken to make patients feel relaxed and at ease. We provide precise pre- and post-surgical instructions, to promote quick and effective healing.

Cosmetic dentistry
TOOTH-COLOURED FILLING MATERIAL

Tooth-coloured filling material is available in two different types: composite resin and ceramic. Dental veneers are thin ‘shells,’ made of tooth-coloured material, and crafted in a dental laboratory to micro fit over the front side of your teeth. Please contact us for further enquiries on this treatment.

Braces
CONVENTIONAL AND INVISIBLE

These removable aligners are made of clear, strong medical-grade plastic, and are worn for approximately two weeks each. They are then replaced by the next aligner in the series, until the final position and desired result is achieved.

Invisalign

Invisalign technology works by using the latest advances in 3D computer imaging to create a treatment plan, by morphing teeth from their initial position to their desired final position.

Whitening from $699

Our dentist will assess the suitability of your teeth for our 45-minute Phillips Zoom whitening treatment. Over time, the natural ageing process and lifestyle habits (such as smoking and drinking coffee, tea, red wine or soft drinks) can stain and discolour teeth. Restoring a beautiful white smile with this treatment can significantly enhance self-esteem and appearance – resulting in a new-found confidence.

NEW PATIENT CHECK-UP AND CLEAN

K Family Dental offers new patients a check-up and clean for $180 or no gap check-up and clean appointments are covered by all health insurance funds.

GUM DISEASE TREATMENT AND AFTER-CARE

Periodontitis is an irreversible condition, and can therefore be treated, but not cured. It involves the permanent deterioration in the quality of tooth attachment and support. Treatment aims at preventing advancement of this condition, and involves some restoration of the connection between the gums and teeth; it also significantly reduces bleeding, gum sensitivity and bad breath. Successful gum treatment by a hygienist and meticulous home care (flossing, brushing and mouth-washing) alleviates inflammation of the gums so that they appear pink and firm again, instead of red and swollen.

JAW PAIN

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge that connects the jawbone to the skull. The exact cause of a TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine: pain may be due to a combination of problems, such as arthritis or a jaw injury. Also, while some people with jaw pain tend to clench or grind their teeth, many others habitually clench their teeth and never develop TMJ disorders. In most cases, the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders can be alleviated with self-managed care or non-surgical treatments. Severe TMJ disorders may require surgical repair.

WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION

The last to emerge in the mouth, wisdom teeth do not have to be extracted when they align properly and the surrounding gum tissue is healthy. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. The extraction of wisdom teeth is needed when they cannot properly emerge, or erupt, from the gums. They may grow sideways, emerge only partially, or even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. Such poorly positioned, impacted teeth can cause many problems, including swelling, stiffness, pain and illness. When partially erupted, the opening around a wisdom tooth allows bacteria to grow, which can lead to infections. In most cases, the removal of wisdom teeth is performed under local anaesthetic.
